Newborn Sleep Pad
One of the items that parents-to-be usually have set-up before the baby arrives is a place for the little one to sleep. There are many options including a cot, bassinet, crib, carry cot, travel cot, moses basket, the list goes on.
I knew, during the early months of my pregnancy that I wasn't so keen on a moses basket, which is probably the most popular choice here in the UK for newborns. I wanted something sturdier, that could possibly last longer (I remember being told some babies out-grow the moses basket before they're three months old) and dare-I say, original. I was even more determined to find an alternative when it started to feel like finding a moses basket alternative that was the same price or cheaper, was actually a full-on challenge. Other suitable alternatives seemed wildly expensive.
I happened upon this baby centre list of modern bassinets and most of them were either above my budgeted price or difficult to track down in this country. I was tempted by the co-sleeper options, but unconsciously, those fell off my radar. I also got quite excited about the hammock style ones, but there were quite a few on the market and I knew I should probably research their ergonomic design before committing to one, so I gave up on those for being too lazy.
I eventually stumbled upon the Stokke bounce and sleep. It comes in two parts which you have to purchase separately - the bouncer and the daybed. I liked the idea of both but wasn't sure I could justify the bouncer since it was really just a basic bouncer with no real special effects or features to offer, besides being compatible with the daybed. I read some of the reviews on retailer websites and the biggest criticism of the design was that if you're sitting on a sofa you couldn't see your baby, as they were positioned quite low in the day bed basket. I reasoned that that was something I could live with, was quite happy it was light, allowed for gentle rocking and easy to move from room to room. The daybed it was, and so far, I have no regrets, although off course as with most baby items, its not perfect, but it does suit our needs.
What do/did you have your newborn sleep in? Would you go for that option again, given your experience with it?
