The Pregnancy Kit ... Because this Phase is a Miracle and a Mystery
Growing a baby is such a special, beautiful thing. I read somewhere about thinking of it as growing a 'soul' - and I think that captures how larger than our minds can comprehend, the process is. People have called it a miracle, because even though science can tell us how it happens, there is still so much that it cannot fully explain relating to the process of conception and fertility.
Being pregnant, on the other hand, can feel like a great mystery. A mystery of the 'why-does-this-have-to-happen-in-this-way-though' variety. This can range from feeling bloated, sleepy, tired, back ache, nausea, trouble sleeping, constant peeing, spitting, body dismorphia, pre-natal depression to full blown hyperemesis gravid arum (HG).
It is no wonder so many of us in the first few months, cannot use the word 'excited' to describe our feelings about the pending arrival. Yes, somewhere inside you are, once you get past all the hormones causing you to be emotional, irrational and highly irritable, and oh, the illness part too. If you're having a rainbow baby or a much longed for baby, you might be more likely to rise above the general mumblings - and that is a reminder of what is important, but just sometimes, it can be quite hard to not let yourself feel down.
Here are a few ideas for a pick-me-up and to make you feel brighter:
This pillow - for an achy back
Bio-oil or cocoa butter or coconut oil - to ward off pesky stretch marks
Ben & Jerry's or Booja Booja ice-cream - as a substitute for wine or a break from healthy eating
Bubble Bath (but not too hot) - to soothe you and make you feel soo good
Great with Child, Letters to a Young Mother - because this book reminds you that parenting is a joy
These leggings - because you can lounge in them and get away with wearing them out too
Iron tablets (but check with your Doctor) - because you need to get back your energy
And other ideas of things money cannot buy:
Agree a feel-sorry-for-myself-day or evening with your partner - the only condition is you have to snap out of it the next morning
Carve out time to spend with friends and family
Take your favourite little niece, nephew or kiddie friend out for an hour or two
Listen to your favourite songs from a happy time

Watch a new series box set and totally immerse yourself in it
Write a letter to your unborn child

Start a journal of things you're grateful for
Open an email address for your unborn child and send pictures of you, you and you partner, scans, other family members to him/her
Stick this Oprah quote where it can be seen daily: “Every day brings a chance for you to draw in a breath, kick off your shoes, and dance.”

So, if you're going through a tough first trimester (or second or third), remember that you're not alone, pregnancy pains know no colour or creed - Kate Middleton, being the best example of this. If you're having a fantastic pregnancy - lucky you, you should do a sympathy dance for those who would love to be in your shoes!
Have a beautiful weekend, everyone.
