Guest Post: Five Items in my Baby Drawer, by Melia
On my first day at University in Manchester, I sat in a huge lecture theatre hall and as excited as I was about Uni life, I was naturally, a little anxious too about what the next three years would bring. Right beside me was a girl from London who must have been thinking the same as me. We got talking that day and over the next few years bonded over our love for chicken, art house cinema and clothes.
She had (and still has) so many amazing fashion finds - quirky accessories, these soft pastel knit wrap cardigans, etc. When I would ask her, where did you get this, she gave a surprising response every time, usually they were vintage pieces. Melia has a great eye for fashion. I am super excited because in a few months, she's going to be a Mummy and I just know her little one is going to be the best dressed baby. When I asked her if she would do a feature post on BfB and she said yes, I knew it had to be something about fashion. Below, she is sharing about baby clothes she has bought and she has included some tips on how she shops, too.
I am writing a little something about five items in my baby's drawer, as I am:
- a shopaholic
- a kidswear merchandiser
- expecting my first baby in a couple of months
1. Shearling Bundler by Baby Gap
I bought this over the Christmas period when I had way too much time to browse the web and Gap were sending me % off discounts every day, via email.
At £34.95 full price, I think it's a bit pricey, but I bought it at a more reasonable £24, as it was on sale and I had been given a 20% off discount code. Right now its on sale for £29.99. I think it's a super cute alternative to a snowsuit/pramsuit, and you can leave it unbuttoned. So, it's a bit like a baby sleeping bag or you can do them up so it has legs, like a regular snow suit.
One online shopping tip I would give is to try not to pay full price for anything! Just before I get to the checkout, I always do an online search for any discount or voucher codes floating about for whichever site I'm shopping on, and most of the time, you can find one!

2. Two Pack Supersize Muslins by Baby Boden
I initially bought these as a present, but when they arrived I decided that they were so cute, I had to keep them! These are designed as a gifting product, so they come in a gift box and are wrapped in tissue paper.
They come in different prints & colours which Boden is famous for. They retailed at £25 at the time, but again, never buy anything from Boden full price - there will always be a discount code. Right now they are on the site for £10 - £20, depending on the colour you choose. If you sign up to the Boden mailing list, they frequently send out money off vouchers.

I love Carters clothes for little ones. I first found this brand when Designers and Buyers came back from New York with bought samples. Carters don't sell in UK stores, as far as I know, I came across this set in TK Maxx, so I presume they must get past season stuff, on occasion.
You can now buy current season online direct at the Carters website, and have it shipped to the UK. They do quite a reasonable shipping & packaging fee if you buy up to a certain amount, so it could be worth looking into getting a bunch of your basic baby items from the site. The more you buy, the better value you get, including shipping costs.
I had never seen this brand before, but again, it's because they don't sell in the UK. I got this dress at a sample sale at work (one of the few perks of working in a buying office)! I think this was bought in Paris, but you can visit the website and they do ship to the UK, if you see something that catches your eye.
Price on the label is €17.90, which seems a bit dear when tiny ones spend most of their time in rompers and sleep suits. But a dress like this is perfect for a special occasion or just a dress nice day. It feels like really good quality and it comes with matching knickers to cover that nappy!

5. Bird All-in-one by Mini B, BHS
Mini B is the new branding for the baby range at BHS, which was previously known as Bambini. With the new branding, has come a new, softer handwriting to the designs.
This stand alone romper is an example of a cute design in a soft oatmeal marl. I know BHS is not the first store that comes to mind when buying clothes for little ones, but they have a great offer from basics to occasion wear, and all with a reasonable price tag, so it’s well worth a look.
I have tried to keep this post as short and succinct as possible, as I could go on for a long time when it comes to shopping and/or baby clothes. However, I hope you have found my drawer pickings interesting, and perhaps it has inspired you to shop a little bit differently!
