About Your New Born's Clothes - Did You Know?
The first time I had to put away clothes from Cocos wardrobe becuase they had become too small, I was so emotional. I had my favourites and had become quite attached to a few of them. I felt like it was the end of an era having to put them away because they no longer fit. Still, it was exciting, because we could actually wear some outfits that had been sitting in the drawers for months. Here are some of my other observations about baby clothes from the first couple of months.
Baby gros/onesies
They usually have flaps at the neck that look like your baby can grow into the baby gro. Those are also great for widening the neck and then pulling the gro all the way down baby's length and off that way. Rather than going through the head. Especially useful when there has been explosive poop, poop up the back, poo-all-over accident. Not to scare Mums to be.
Start wearing one size up
The rate at which your baby outgrows her clothes might shock you. We have had episodes where we 'forgot' about a little outfit and then only got to wear it once or twice before it was too small. To get the most of outfits, you could remind yourself to start putting baby in clothes one size up from their actual size. This works especially well for trousers (because you can pull them right up, or roll them up at the ankles) or tops (you roll up the sleeves), but less so for bodysuits (which may be too big at the neck).
Do not save for special days
They will go to waste! Especially in the first couple of months. If you do, chances are they outgrow that outfit and you never get to wear it or only wear it once or twice.
Ignore sizing -when checking what fits
I say this because different stores size newborn, 0-3 months etc differently. Sometimes even within one store, some clothes will fit smaller or bigger even though they have the same age on the labels. To keep on top of clothes, every week go through the drawer and compare clothes against what fits perfectly for that period. I usually put her in clothes that are a little bit big, that way I get a longer wear of them.
Hand-me-downs
Accept these, graciously! Especially if they are body suits or baby gros. They will likely get pooped on, spit up all over them etc. So that you come to realise, being precious about new baby clothes is really counter productive. Yes, have a handful of nice, special outfits for going out, but at home, we are all about comfort and older can sometimes mean softer.
Long sleeved top and trousers
For pyjamas -these are my favourite. If I have to change Coco, especially at night, I just pull the trousers down and pull them up again, once I'm done. I don't need the lights on to be able to do that and can literarily do it half asleep. Poppers are a little bit trickier and I have less patience for them. H&M are great for trouser sets/leggings. Night dresses/ or these baby night gowns are also quite handy for tight time, though I never used them.
Bibs
If you your baby is quite dribbly, or starts what looks like teething at an early age, say at three months, bibs are very handy. I particularly love the ones that come with pyjamas or gros or in a set - as it feels like a nice bonus. TK Maxx are great for those.
What have I missed out relating to clothing newborns?
