25 Things I Catch Myself Saying To Pregnant Friends
...that they probably don't want to hear. Applies to first time mums only, though. I just can't help myself.
- If your labour is easy and fantastic, like you had a 'I sneezed and baby popped out' birth - don't tell me.
- Buy the breast pump in advance, you will need it!
- Two words for getting baby to sleep - white noise.
- But... all babies are different.
- Hormones wrecking havoc does not go away - I am now more weepy and emotional now, than I was during pregnancy.
- You just cannot understand these things un till your baby is here.
- Goodluck! Haha.
- Men/Dads don't get it.
- Haemorrhoids or constipation - seems to be, you get either one, post-partum.
- Moses basket - let me know how that works out for you.
- Your next pregnancy might be different.
- Get that Lactulose prescription before you need it.
- Imagine being that person that the epidural doesn't work for.
- You didn't do the pelvic floor exercises - well, theres always corrective surgery.
- My nipples had to tough it out baby did not like the taste of Lanolin (nipple cream)
- I can't even think back to that first six weeks period. Tough times ahead.
- The not knowing whether you're doing the right thing in the first few days is awful
- The many different conflicting ideas from healthcare specialists, well-meaning friends, your mum, other mums. Extremely unhelpful.
- You know the breasts you had before you got pregnant, you'll never see them again.
- I now weight less than I did before I got pregnant. Breastfeeding is the answer.
- Swaddle Swaddle Swaddle.
- The labour pain was horrible. Out of this world. Like nothing I could have imagined.
- Have I scarred you, with my stories?
- Strangers are going to keep talking to you after you've had the baby. This time they will be armed with advice.
- You'll see.
Are you that annoying friend too? I say these to be helpful but I think when you're pregnant, especially closer to your due date, sometimes you just wish people would shut up with the advice -helpful or not! By the last trimester I decided not to read any more books on pregnancy or childbirth. I was just plain fed up of the different stories, I was a bit more nervous and I had finally reached that point of whatever will be, will be - lets do this.
Two mums from instagram that I followed from while they were pregnant just had their babies and have started sharing little tit-bits of their mummy life. It all fills me with so much excitement for them - those first few days however painful/confusing/exhausting, are soooo precious. Wishing you pregnant mums-to-be a safe delivery in due time!
Happy Tuesday
