The Little Things, Featuring Coco
Before I get to sharing about our experiences travelling with a baby over the holidays, I wanted to post about this moment with Coco that happened three days before christmas.
It was about 6 or 7pm, and what a day it had been. Coco just refused to take her naps. I think this was the first day I started thinking we could be going through the four month sleep regression. By the evening she'd had a total of an hours worth of sleep in dribs and drabs, compared to the four or five hours in two blocks we had started getting used to. Everytime she fell asleep in my arms and I tried to put her down, she woke up and cried. Even when I held her, she wriggled a lot and didn't seem to be having the best of sleeps. She was cranky the whole day, and I could do nothing but hold her and imagine what our night was going to look like - horror! Then she did this...
We just played a game. Ok, we have played many-a-games, but tonight we played a game where my only job was to smile.
I was on the sofa sitting with my knees bent outwards and my feet inward. Baby C was lying across my thigh, with her head facing the arm of the chair. She lifted her head and turned around to look at me, at one point and I did what I usually do when I catch her gaze, offer a big cheesy smile. Only what did she do this time, she turned back and laughed into her hands, resting her forehead on the arm of the sofa. As if to say 'noooo, stop it you crazy lady' at something hilarious I had done or said.
She turned her head back, I smiled and she did it again, laughed right back into the arm of the sofa, with her hands cupped to her mouth. Let me tell you, it did not get old. I laughed out loud five times before I think she decided she was done playing the game or something may have distracted us.
I could have played it through bath time, play time and bed time (since sleep was not looking like it was guaranteed anyway). Just sat on the sofa instead, smiling and then screaming with laughter at her giggles and dramatics. Me and my Coco at 3.5months, playing. The stuff that is so small, but feels so big to a Mama.
