Items I Skipped On The Babylist

When I was putting together my list of items for baby's first six months, I completed an excel sheet with the suggested items from a baby list provided by my sister and online sources too. Once I was done, I looked at the items and there just seemed to be so many.  I started to doubt if we really needed every single product. Even the breast pump, I questioned. Wouldn't it be a waste of money, if for some reason I was not breastfeeding? Well, I soon found out once I had engorged boobs on post-partum day four, why the pump is listed as an essential. It has come in very handy since for expressing to feed Coco and now for adding to pureed meals. Still, there were a few items I decided not to go ahead and purchase. Here they are:

Baby bag
I use a large black tote that I got as a gift from MisterB when I was pregnant. It works just fine. What I did buy was a diaper pouch, which includes pockets for diapers, nappy bin bags, and breast pads. It also has a case for storing wet wipes. The diaper pouch is all I need to take to the bathroom for diaper changes when we're out in public.

Breastfeeding cover
I use the large muslins I got from Aden & Anais. It's light enough so she's not boiling hot under it. It's probably not as sleek for getting baby under it, but works just as discreetly, once baby is latched on and feeding.

Bumbo seat
I use the boppy pillow I got for breastfeeding, in the first few months. Or just regular pillows. She can sit unsupported now, so I can safely say I didn't miss this.

Steriliser
Ok, I have to confess, I own one of these. But I did not buy it. MisterB insisted I needed one and one day came back home with one. I went through a phase of using it a lot, but I now no longer use it. I have read many articles online which show that you do not necessarily need to sterilise. That a dishwasher or boiling water also does the trick. Mind you we have not moved to formula. Bacteria grows very quickly in formula milk kept at room temperature, so I would need to be extra vigilant abut cleaning bottles or cups which previously contained formula milk.

Baby Night light
I use the flashlight app or leave the light on in the ensuite bathroom. I also have a bed side lamp but I find it too bright. To be honest if I could go back, I would get one of those lamps that you tap to increase brightness. So the first tap is dim and then with each subsequent tap, it gets brighter. I have used them at friends' houses twice now and they are super! To be honest, I should probably get one of these even now.

Baby Food Processor
We have two blenders now - one for spicy food and the other for smoothies or fruit juices. I use the latter for puree-ing apples, pears etc for Coco's meals. I miss the accompanying steamer that usually come with the baby food processor, but I plan to get a steamer aid that can go on the top of a point or a standalone steamer which the whole family can use.

Nappy stacker
I use one of the raffia style storage boxes, I bought years ago that comes in five different sizes. I keep that by my bed and store in it, wipes, diapers, baby bro, onesie, bib, disposable change mat and lotion. For the living room I store diapers in the change unit. I can't say I have missed the nappy stacker.

Bottle warmer
I use boiled water in a bowl. I am glad I did not shell out for one of these as Coco now refuses the bottle, so I am having to store away feeding bottles until she moves on to formula, if she does. I am hoping to not have to re-introduce a feeding bottle at all, if I can help it. So maybe I will try offering her milk in a cup, instead. We'll see how that goes.

What items on the baby list did you skip and how did it work out, did you miss it?

Have great weekend!
