Labour & Delivery - My One Piece of Advice For Each

Baby is going to be here soon. Not mine, my friends. It's just a matter of days or maybe even hours now. I am so excited. I saw her last week and she asked me this, on the spot, just as I was leaving: what piece of advice would you give for labour and what about for delivery? Here is what I told her:

If you're hoping for a natural birth, look up the different positions to try and practice them at home while you're waiting on baby. You could also put the images on your phone or print them out on a sheet. That way you can try different ones and hopefully then figure out quicker the position that is right and comfortable for you, and there could be several.

straight after birth
Start breastfeeding right away, if it's your plan to nurse baby. I was in the theatre, and literarily as soon as I held my baby and counted her fingers and toes (instinctal), I started nursing her and I was lucky that she took to it straight away with a good latch.


ps Now that I am home and have had time to think about it, a few more tips have popped into my head - isn't it always the way, at the time I was wracking my brain. What advice would you give for labour and for straight after the birth, if you had to give just one for each. I would love to hear your nuggets of advice!
