The Doidy Cup |
The Doidy Cup
The Doidy Cup from Bickiepegs is designed to teach your child to drink from the rim of a cup rather than a spout or teated bottle. The special slanted design makes it easy for little ones to sip rather than pour, as they can see what they're drinking without tilting their head too much. This encourages a natural drinking action as well as helping them to learn to put down the cup properly.
The Doidy cup is an ideal aid to weaning as the natural mouth action used is the same as in breast feeding. In addition, dental professionals suggest that training children to drink from a cup as soon as possible can cut down on the long-term dental problems associated with prolonged use of bottles.
Babies as young as 6 months will find the two-handled Doidy cup easy to hold and use, but with Mum's help the cup can be used from birth. Dishwasher (top shelf) and microwave safe (although microwaving liquids can result in 'hot spots' and microwaving is therefore not advised for children's drinks).

So I joked on instagram (@bforbetula) that only a brave mama will jump right in and start using this early. I take that back. This cup is fantastic. Coco started using it with my help from five months old and she loves it. It's also bright and sparkly which I think helps.
Although tipping it back to drink from is made easier for your little one, so is tipping it forward so all the contents pour out on the floor.
The opinions on Amazon reminded me that the handles could be improved. They are too small and do not make for an easy grip by adult or child.
I have not rated it a five, because I have two other sip cups which you can take the cover off on and use as regular cups. As much as I like the Doidy cup, these sip cups (with their covers beaks removed) also work well for learning to drink from a regular cup. But I have a feeling when she starts drinking out from cups without my help, I will notice that she finds the Doidy easier to use that the other cups.

The Neckerchew
The World's first chewy dribble bib for teething tots! The unique design combines the popular dribble bib concept with an attached chewy teether to sooth painful young gums. This prevents the problem of babies dropping teethers on dirty floors or loosing them when out and about.
Available in 15 different colours and designs, each Neckerchew is fully reversible. The bibs are made from super soft jersey cotton and have an absorbent middle layer to lock in moisture away from small chests. The textured triangle gives great bite using an innovative dimpled design to massage and sooth tender gums and encourage new teeth to break through. The teether contains no phthalates, will never flake or peel and is 100% safe for babies to chew on. Secured with a double popper fastener, the Neckerchew can expand to grow with your baby. Machine washable at 40 degrees.
Price £11.99 at Peter Jones/John Lewis. Also available on Amazon for the same price.
What I use as a substitute is the regular bibs. And the sophie the giraffe, or the hevea dummy/pacifier or the teething toy, see all three at this teething post.

The Clevafeed
The BPA free Clevafeed is the safest most hygienic way to introduce your baby to solids without the risk of choking. It’s easy to use, simply snap open the top of the feeder, place food in the teat and allow your baby to suck the food through the teat. The ClevaFeed is a great way to introduce new flavours and textures to your baby whilst also ensuring excellent nutrition from a very early age. Suitable for 6months+, the ClevaFeed can be used with both fresh and cooked foods. This handy pack also comes with a replacement teat.
Price £5.99 on Amazon.I have packed this one away. The problem was that she tried to chew the handle, while she was learning to put the right bit - the mesh, into her mouth. Only the mesh teat is soft. I ended up having to take it from her and holding the mesh bit in her mouth, which started to defeat the purpose (I could just hold the piece of fruit or veg in her mouth directly).
Also, with an actual piece of veg or fruit, the whole thing is soft so if she tries t o chew it from the top or the bottom or the side, it's not a problem.
The third issue was that she kept dropping it. I don't mind so much if that happens with real food, I just put it on the side and offer her a fresh piece, (I then rinse and eat the fallen piece, hah). I can't really do that with the Clevafeed.
What I use as a substitute is cold sticks of cucumber, a wedge of apple or a wedge of mango.
