Five Things I don't Want to Tell You about Coco
But here goes...
1. I give her a bath with water and no soap.
Her skin can be really sensitive and I trust water the most. Another thing is, she tries to suck on the water while I am giving her a bath and has done since she was less than a month old. I would rather did she did not and try to prevent her but mostly she still gets a little in. I would rather that was water than soapy water. After a few day of water or if we've been swimming, then yes I will soap her towards the end of the bath, but the rest of the time, I do not. She is clean though -she gets a top and tail every morning, as well as bath time at night, and she smells so good.
2. I have not pierced her ears.
This one is a big deal if you're African and controversial if you live in the UK. Babies usually get their ears pierced at the hospital in Nigeria a few days after they're born. I planned to get it done when she was still very little, but we were busy with colic symptoms, then the lady who was to do it has been hard to track down and now, I just can't bring myself to care enough. Much to the irritation of some. The way I see it, it is not a big deal and not a priority.
3. We co-sleep.
I have said a lot about this already on the blog. This is potentially the last weekend of this arrangement. Wish us luck as we transition her into her new cot.
4. She is really sociable at the moment.
It could be a phase and I keep thinking that that one day I'll wake up and she will not be interested in smiling at or letting anyone else hold her. So I am holding my breathe and when people say she's really friendly I see 'yes, yes, and then whisper, for now'. haha. Managing expectations (mine, mostly). Is that weird?
5. Her hair is falling out.
It is normal, as babies shed their initial hair and new hair grows back, although sometimes it grows back quite quickly without losing much of the first hair, but not in our case. Everyone tries to be polite about it, bless, but yes, she now has less hair than she did as a newborn. And it's in patches too. I think its cute, but I've had a few questions about just cutting it all off and then letting it grow back again. I don't have any plans to do that, I think for now I will just let it be and see how we get on over the next couple of months.
So there you have it! No shame, just being honest.
What is in your 'I-don't-go-around-telling-people-about' bag?
Happy Monday.
